Tools

The James Hutton Institute potato group has developed a wide range of tools for carrying out innovative research.

Driven by the publication of the potato genome, a number of genetic tools including high-density single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) platforms and target enrichment sequencing technologies have been developed. We are also developing gene editing approaches for potato.

These tools have been instrumental in mapping and characterising important potato traits such as late blight and nematode resistance, heat tolerance, tuber dormancy as well as quality traits.

These resources are also extremely useful for assessing the genetic diversity held within Hutton germplasm collections.
