for the general public and families

Come and spend a fun family day at Mylnefield Farm!

The Institute will be taking part in Open Farm Sunday 2019 on 9 June.

This year we're back at Mylnefield Farm in Invergowrie on the outskirts of Dundee. Mylnefield Farm is the location of many of our crop breeding and research plots particularly soft fruit and cereals. As well as being a farm it’s an open-air laboratory for our scientists to do all sorts of crop trials, experimental farming techniques and projects to see how farming and the environment can work better together.

There will be tractor trailer tours, activities and experiments to learn more about food from crops, understand the importance of soil microbiology, explore the heath benefits of soft fruit and analyse the properties of potatoes. Want to know what your dinner plate will look like in 2050? Come along and find out!

Of course, no farm event would be complete without machinery to climb on! If you prefer to get your hands dirty, you can pot up plants in the glasshouses. Bring a picnic or grab something from the hot food catering stand. Many exhibits will be under cover so don’t worry if it’s a wet day.
